For people like me who fall into the category of "INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS" we are often asked a very common and simplistic question (atleast to those who ask us!!) "So how does it feel to be in the USA ?". Well I dont know about you but I have atleast a 1000 words in my mouth at the same time and a mix of emotions in my heart... but all that I am able to blurt out is "Its Nice. Thank You".
Hmm... it is nice alright but its all at a price...
I still remember the day I had boarded my flight to JFK, New York from the New Delhi International Airport in order to pursue my Grad Studies in Computer Science. I knew I had to work hard and all that (our parents are good at reminding us this fact of life :) ! ). I had spent four years of my life in a hostel hence I was well aware of the side of life where you have to manage everything on your own. But this was different... a different continent (with different eating habits, diffent life style, no familarity (as in India every place in India feels familiar if you know what I mean !)... no friends... and no idea of when would I be able to see my parents next !
The feeling of emptiness within me could not be measured. I could feel a strange numbness but also a curiousity of how things would turn up at the other end of my journey. A feeling that I am still living till date :) the only difference being that now I have a couple of friends I can pour out my heart to...(what a relief seriously !! :) thank u guys for being there.. )
So in short yes I know this is a decision I made in my conciousness and have no regrets. I am away from my country.. my parents.. my friends.. my favourite home made food.. my favourite restaurant.. etc etc the list may just be never ending...!!! But the point here is there are 1000's of us here paying a cost in order to have a decently bright future for us and for our family. So bravo to all you guys who like me ":D" are away from your homeland and are trying to carve an etch...
